Implementation of the Approved Suspension of CET on Extruded Fish Feed (Tilapia) 32% -65% protein

The Ministry of Finance and the Public Service in letter dated May 10, 2024 advised the Jamaica Customs Agency of the approval of the suspension of the Common External Tariff (CET) on 8,486 metric tons of Extruded Fish Feed Tilapia 32% - 65% protein of Tariff code 2309.90.60.10 for period May 3, 2024 to May 2, 2025.

Additional National Code (ANC) GX1 should be used to facilitate clearance.

Implementation of the Approved Suspension of CET on Extruded Fish Feed (Shrimp)

The Ministry of Finance and the Public Service in letter dated April 5, 2024 advised the Jamaica Customs Agency of the approval of the suspension of the Common External Tariff (CET) on 30 metric tons of Extruded Fish Feed (Shrimp) of Tariff code 2309.90.60.20 for period April 2, 2024 to April 1, 2025.

Additional National Code (ANC) GW9 should be used to facilitate clearance.

Implementation of Removal of General Consumption Tax (GCT), Special Consumption Tax Ad Valorem (SCTA) and the 5% Common External Tariff (CET) payable on Armoured Cash Courier Vehicle

The Ministry of Finance and the Public Service advised the Jamaica Customs Agency vide Ministry Paper 11/24 dated March 26, 2024, that any company that operates an approved cash courier business can import free of General Consumption Tax (GCT), Special Consumption Tax Ad Valorem (SCTA) and pay 5% Common External Tariff (CET) on the following items:

1. Armoured vehicles on the excess of CIF US$33,000

2. The added cost of armouring vehicles

 

The effective date is April 1, 2024 through to March 31, 2026.  Additional National Code (ANC) V26 should be used to facilitate clearance.

Implementation of the Approved Suspension of the CET (Import Duty) on Lithium-ion Batteries

The Ministry of Finance and the Public Service has advised the Jamaica Customs Agency, in a letter dated February 06, 2024, that in keeping with the decision of the CARICOM Secretary General, Jamaica will fully suspend the Common External Tariff (Import Duty) on 240,000 pieces of lithium-ion batteries of tariff code 8507.60.00 for the period February 02, 2024 to February 01, 2025.

Additional National Code (ANC) EC4 should be used to facilitate clearance.

 

Implementation of the Customs Tariff (Revision) (Amendment) (No. 2) Resolution, 2023

Reference is made to Gazette dated December 14, 2023, Vol.CXLV1 and No. 387.

 

The Ministry of Finance and Public Service has advised the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) in a letter dated December 29, 2023 that the Customs Tariff (Revision) Resolution, 1972(the principal Resolution) has been amended as follows:

First Schedule

  1. There has been an increase in the duty rate of Chlorine proper to 2801.10.00 from 0% to 10%.

Fourth Schedule

  1. Insertion of Chlorine proper to 2801.10.00 in Part 1 of the Fourth Schedule (List of Commodities Ineligible for Conditional Duty Exemptions);
  2. Correction of the item numbered 2710.19.71 described as “Lubricating oil base stock (paraffinic type)”, by deleting the numerals 71” and substituting therefor the numerals 81’; and
  3. Correction of the item numbered 2710.19.75 described as “Hydraulic brake fluids and other prepared liquids for hydraulic transmission’, by deleting the numerals “75” and substituting therefor the numerals “85”.

The effective date for the amendment is January 02, 2024.

 

Implementation of the Approved Suspension of the CET (Import Duty) on a List of eight (8) Renewable Energy and Energy Efficient Technologies

The Ministry of Finance and the Public Service has advised the Jamaica Customs Agency, in a letter dated December 14, 2023  that the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) has approved the Suspension of the Common External Tariff (Import Duty) on the following eight (8) renewable energy and energy efficient items in the quantities stated:

The Suspension commences on January 01, 2024 and ends on December 31, 2025.

Additional National Code (ANC) EC4 is already in place and should be used to facilitate clearance.

Effective January 01, 2024, Additional National Code (ANC) EC3 should be used to facilitate the GCT exemption on lithium- ion batteries imported for use in solar application which are no longer included on the list.
